Nestled within the heart of Europe, Switzerland stands as a stunning masterpiece rich in nature. The magical combination of modernity and nature attracts so many tourists to Switzerland each year. It has always been a dream for me to visit this fairy-tale land. Right after my graduation, I set out on an extraordinary journey with the gorgeous Swiss Alps as my backdrop, taking in the splendor of towns like Geneva and Zurich and finding peace in the tranquility in Swiss way of living. With this blog post, I am going to unveil my unforgettable journey to Switzerland as well as my recommendations and travel hacks.
City Escapes
The famous city of Geneva is renowned for its international organizations and diplomatic history. My recommendation to anyone who visits Geneneva is not to miss the opportunity to wander through the Old Town. Because, Geneva old town is quite modest with cobblestone streets, winding past historic landmarks and charming cafes.
Not only Geneva, but the city of Zurich is also very captivating. Zurich is Switzerland’s largest city, boasting a vibrant arts scene, world-class shopping, and a thriving nightlife.
One thing I really enjoyed during my stay in Zurich was my well-spent day at the Chocolate Factory. Entering the Swiss Chocolate Museum was like stepping into a magical world of cocoa. Every moment was indeed very delightful. But as a chocolate lover, my favorite experience was tasting the different flavored chocolates at the Chocolate Museum.
Local Experiences: Embracing Authentic Switzerland
To truly experience the local culture, I tried to connect with the Swiss way of life during my stay. As you already know, Swiss cheese is popular for being very healthy and tasting good at the same time.
Being a cheese lover, I participated in a cheese-making workshop in Gruyères. It was a very fun experience where I learned about the art of famous Swiss cheese making. If you are a cheese lover like me, you should definitely get this authentic experience.
Also, the chocolate-making workshop at the Lindt Chocolate factory was equally exciting. I also got the opportunity to attend a local festival in Appenzell during my stay. I could experience the Swiss culture with gorgeous folk dances and music at this amazing festival.
Scenic Train Journeys: A journey through the Swiss Landscape
If you can do only one thing being a tourist in Switzerland, it should be taking a train ride to navigate the gorgeous Swiss Landscape. I can’t stress how much I like this. Mostly because it genuinely is a fairy tale experience. The world-famous panoramic train journey through the Glacier Express route is something I wish everyone get to experience at least once. During the train ride, you get unparalleled views of the Alps, charming villages, and icy blue rivers.
The train ride from Zurich to Liechtenstein is also so iconic. The Lake Zurich along the train ride offers stunning scenery. Last but not least, the gorgeous sceneries when I rode the Bernina Express through the Engadin Valley also left me fascinated by the beauty of this country. Out of these three rides, the Glacier Express train ride remains at the top.
Skiing Paradise: Switzerland Ski Vacation
Switzerland is one of the most famous ski destinations in the world. As a passionate skier, I did not miss my chance to experience Switzerland’s famous ski resorts. Zermatt which is located between Matterhorn, offers breathtaking views and pristine slopes. Then, Engelberg located in the heart of the Alps, is also a famous ski destination with powder-covered terrain. With these amazing skiing resorts, Switzerland is truly a skiing paradise.
Closing Notes
To sum up, I would say that my trip to Switzerland was among the most thrilling of my life. I enjoyed every bit of my trip, including exploring Swiss towns and enjoying the local culture. As I departed this Alpine paradise, I carried so many memories. Switzerland is indeed a traveler’s dream.
